At Integrative Mind, we understand how obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) can disrupt daily life, intrusive thoughts, repetitive behaviors, constant anxiety, and time lost to fighting urges. When traditional treatments haven’t brought the relief you need, there is hope. Our non-invasive, FDA-cleared transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) program offers a new option for those ready to regain control.

What is OCD, and how can TMS help?

OCD is more than “being neat” or “worrying too much.” It’s a brain-circuit condition that triggers unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive actions (compulsions). Research shows a hyperactive neural loop involving the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) and related circuits.

TMS works by delivering gentle, targeted magnetic pulses to these brain regions, resetting over-activity, improving neural regulation, and reducing OCD symptoms. In practical terms: less rumination, fewer compulsions, better focus.

Why choose TMS for OCD at Integrative Mind?

  • FDA-cleared for OCD - We offer the advanced deep TMS (dTMS) protocols proven for OCD treatment, including those using the H7-coil device targeting ACC/mPFC circuits.

  • Specialized expertise - Our clinical team integrates psychiatry, neuromodulation, and whole-person care so your OCD treatment is part of your complete mental-health journey.

  • Comprehensive care - We treat OCD in context: medications, therapy, and TMS work best together for lasting change.

  • Convenient Brooklyn location - Near Prospect Park in Park Slope, our clinic is easily accessible, comfortable, and designed to feel supportive rather than clinical.

  • Insurance coverage support - We accept major plans and help navigate your benefits. Many patients qualify for in-network and out-of-network coverage for OCD with TMS.

Who is a good candidate for TMS for OCD?

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Are diagnosed with adult-onset OCD (18+ years)

  • Have tried evidence-based therapy (such as ERP) and at least one or two SSRI medications without sufficient relief

  • Have no contraindications such as metal implants near the head, unstable seizure disorders or certain types of implanted devices

  • Are motivated for change and open to integrated care (therapy + medication + TMS)

Evaluation

Your psychiatrist assesses your OCD history, treatment-resistance status, eligibility for TMS, and brain-mapping protocols.

Schedule

Typically daily sessions (Monday-Friday) for 4-6 weeks. Most TMS sessions last ~18-20 minutes following a brief preparatory phase.

Sessions

You sit comfortably in a chair, fully awake. The coil is placed at the target location on your scalp. You may hear clicking sounds and feel tapping on your head. You can resume normal activities afterward.

Progress

Many patients begin to feel relief in the first 2-4 weeks: fewer intrusive thoughts, less compulsion, more clarity. Response rates in studies range around 45-55%.

Maintenance

Some patients may need periodic “booster” or “maintenance” sessions to sustain gains—our team will design a personalized plan for you.

Safety & Side-Effects

What to know

TMS for OCD is non-invasive and well tolerated. Side-effects are typically mild: scalp tingling, headache, facial twitching, light-headedness. Serious risks like seizure are extremely rare.

Because TMS targets specific brain regions without systemic medication effects, it avoids many side-effects of drugs (such as weight gain, sedation or sexual dysfunction).

As always, our team will review your full health history before proceeding to ensure safety and appropriateness.

Take control of your OCD

If your OCD has persisted despite standard treatment, you don’t have to settle for “just managing.” At Integrative Mind, you’ll find modern neuromodulation paired with caring clinicians who believe in whole-person healing.

Dr. Lewis is both super smart and on the cutting edge of research in the field, and a thoughtful compassionate listener. She is great at getting to the nut of any issue and makes thoughtful recommendations for how to move forward. I've sent her multiple patients who give her great reviews and the kids she's worked with think she is super-cool.
