Your Journey to Wellness at Integrative Mind
Starting something new can be daunting, especially when it comes to your mental health. Many of our clients tell us they postponed seeking help because they weren't sure what the process would involve or how it would feel. At Integrative Mind, we believe that understanding each step of your treatment journey helps create comfort and confidence. Here's what to expect when you work with us, from your first contact through your ongoing care.
Before Treatment Begins
Free Initial Consultation
Your journey begins with a free 15-minute phone consultation with one of our care coordinators. During this call, we'll:
- Listen to your concerns and needs
- Answer your questions about our practice and approaches
- Help determine which services might be most beneficial
- Discuss insurance coverage and payment options
- Schedule your comprehensive evaluation
Comprehensive Evaluation
Your first in-person appointment is a thorough assessment with a clinician matched to your needs:
- Duration: 60 minutes
- Purpose: To understand your complete history, current challenges, and treatment goals
- What to bring: Insurance card, list of current medications, and any previous treatment records if available
- What we'll discuss: Your symptoms, medical history, family history, lifestyle factors, and what you hope to achieve through treatment
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
What a session looks like:
- Sessions take place in a comfortable, private room
- You'll be seated in a reclining chair throughout the treatment
- A small electromagnetic coil is positioned against your scalp
- The device delivers focused magnetic pulses to specific areas of your brain
- Sessions typically last 20-40 minutes
- You remain awake and alert—you can read, watch videos, or chat with staff
Treatment schedule:
- Standard course: 5 sessions per week for 4-6 weeks (20-30 sessions total)
- Accelerated TMS: Multiple daily sessions over a shorter period (schedule varies based on protocol)
What you might experience:
- A tapping sensation on your scalp
- Some patients report mild discomfort that typically subsides after the first few sessions
- Most patients can drive and return to normal activities immediately after each session
Medication Management
Session structure:
- Initial medication consultation: 45-60 minutes
- Follow-up appointments: 15-30 minutes
- Typical frequency: Every 2-4 weeks initially, extending to every 1-3 months as symptoms stabilize
What to expect:
- Discussion of medication effects, side effects, and concerns
- Monitoring of symptoms and progress
- Adjustments to dosage or medication type as needed
- Education about how your medication works
- Coordination with other treatment providers
Supportive practices:
- Tracking mood, sleep, and side effects in a daily log
- Regular physical activity to enhance medication effectiveness
- Consistent sleep and meal schedules
- Mindfulness techniques to manage side effects
Psychotherapy
Session structure:
- Sessions typically last 45 minutes
- Usually scheduled weekly, adjusting to biweekly or monthly as progress is made
What happens in sessions:
- Collaborative discussions about your experiences and challenges
- Exploration of thought patterns, emotions, and behaviors
- Learning and practicing new coping strategies
- Developing insights about yourself and your relationships
Examples of therapeutic exercises:
- Cognitive restructuring to identify and change negative thought patterns
- Mindfulness practices to build awareness and reduce stress
- Behavioral activation to increase engagement in positive activities
- Interpersonal skill development to improve relationships
- Exposure exercises for anxiety-related conditions

Tracking Progress
Throughout your treatment at Integrative Mind, we regularly assess your progress using:
- Standardized measurement tools to track symptom improvement
- Collaborative discussions about your experience and goals
- Adjustments to your treatment plan as needed based on your response
Remember: Recovery is rarely a straight line. Progress often includes both improvements and temporary setbacks. Our team remains supportive through all phases of your journey.
Treatment-Specific Considerations
After TMS treatment:
- Most patients can immediately return to daily activities, including driving
- Many experience continued improvement for weeks after completing the treatment course
- Optional maintenance sessions may be recommended for some patients
- Follow-up appointments monitor your ongoing progress
Medication management transitions:
- Some medications are intended for short-term use, while others may be beneficial long-term

- If a medication isn't working well or causing troublesome side effects, we'll work with you to adjust or change it
- Any medication changes are made gradually and carefully
- Long-term medication plans are reviewed regularly
Psychotherapy completion:
- Some clients achieve their goals in a few months, while others benefit from longer-term therapy
- As you improve, session frequency may decrease before ending treatment
- You're welcome to return to therapy during future challenges or life transitions
- Many clients find that periodic "booster" sessions help maintain progress

Dr. Lewis is both super smart and on the cutting edge of research in the field, and a thoughtful compassionate listener. She is great at getting to the nut of any issue and makes thoughtful recommendations for how to move forward. I've sent her multiple patients who give her great reviews and the kids she's worked with think she is super-cool.
